Community Outreach

Community Outreach at IROCKMYSCARS is rooted in meeting people where they are through practical support, shared resources, and community-centered care.

At IROCKMYSCARS, Community Outreach is rooted in showing up for individuals and families in tangible, meaningful ways. Through resource-sharing, outreach initiatives, and community-based support, we work to create welcoming points of access that help meet everyday needs while strengthening connection, dignity, and hope.

Our outreach efforts are designed to serve underserved communities through practical care, responsive support, and growing opportunities for engagement. From direct resource access to future community-centered spaces, this work reflects our commitment to helping people feel seen, supported, and connected.

Community Outreach at IROCKMYSCARS may include:
  • resource pop-ups
  • shared essentials and donation-based support
  • community resource connection
  • family and neighborhood outreach efforts
  • practical care initiatives
  • future community hub development through the Resilience Resource Center

What We’re Doing Now
Even as we continue building toward larger community goals, we are already providing hands-on support through active outreach efforts such as:
  • Resource Pop-Ups
Seasonal pop-ups help distribute clothing, coats, books, and other essentials to neighbors in need.
  • 24-Hour Donation Table
Our self-serve donation table allows community members to pick up or drop off essential items at any time, creating a simple and accessible way to share resources with dignity and care.
  • Community Outreach Events
We also engage the community through local farmers markets, public events, and outreach opportunities across Hampton Roads, helping us share resources, build connections, and expand awareness of our work.

Why it Matters

Community Outreach is about more than distributing items. It is about creating access, reducing barriers, and building a stronger network of care within the community. Whether through immediate resource-sharing or long-term community investment, we want people to know they do not have to navigate hardship alone.

Our goal is to create spaces and opportunities that foster dignity, connection, and support while helping communities grow stronger together.

What We’re Building

One growing part of our Community Outreach work is the Resilience Resource Center (RRC) in Crewe, Virginia.

The Resilience Resource Center is a developing community hub designed to expand access to essentials, connection, and supportive programming in a more permanent and welcoming space. As this initiative grows, the RRC is intended to build on the impact of our existing outreach efforts by creating a central place where neighbors can access resources, engage in community-centered experiences, and connect with opportunities for support.

By reimagining a dormant space as an inclusive, welcoming center, the RRC extends IROCKMYSCARS’ 24-hour donation table into a staffed storefront with clearly defined zones:

  • The Support Rack: Curated, monthly “premium picks” available for purchase. Every purchase directly fuels the Irockmyscars mission—funding free clothing and resources and helping cover essential operating costs to keep services accessible and the doors open.
  • Free Clothing Closet: A wide selection of gently used clothing for all ages and sizes at no cost, offered in a boutique-style environment that prioritizes choice, dignity, and care.
  • Donation and Resource Desk: A welcoming concierge that receives donations, shares information on free resources, and connects visitors to programs, benefits navigation, and support services.
  • Free Essentials Shelves: No-cost personal care, household, and seasonal items to ensure neighbors have reliable access to everyday basics.
  • Community Center Space: A flexible, multi-use area for workshops, classes, events, and informative sessions where guests can learn, connect, and recharge.

The RRC fosters inclusion, social cohesion, and community identity while generating opportunities for economic self-sufficiency. It will serve as a visible, lasting investment in people, place, and pride.

The Resilience Resource Center is currently under development, and we look forward to sharing future updates as progress continues. In the meantime, our outreach efforts remain active through resource-sharing initiatives and practical support in the community.
